This is the slate roof on the back of our house, showing the date it was built(1886). We wanted to get a clear photo of it before we have the entire roof replaced. The front of the house was reroofed 20+ years ago with asphalt shingles. The entire roof is in need of replacing after a storm this winter damaged the asphalt shingles. As you can see, the slate roof has been patched and repaired over the years.
It seems a shame to have to let a slate roof go for asphalt shingles, but.....do you have plans for the slates? I've seen them with lovely things painted or decopaged on them, and the nail holes make a place for ribbon, raffia or baling twine for a real country look. 'just one more idea for your booth at the Farmer's Market! Or... you could save them and roof a smaller building, like a garden shed - or the spinning studio you'll have one day?
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you got that picture, Lisa. I am always sad when a piece of history is replaced here and am glad when I have a picture to remind me of how things were.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can use the old slate for something. Would make me sad to just let them go to waste.
