BFL Update

These are some of my "grandkids", bred and raised by the Bernhardt family in SW Ohio.  They are out of Somerhill stock with a strong Llwygy X1 influence, which I think shows in their conformation.

A little Sunshine

Bernies Sunshine, born today at Bernhardts Family Farm in SW OH. 
Another "grandchild" from a first time lamber.  So far they are getting along
well together.  She is a bit of sunshine after a long, dark and stormy week.  
Seeing pictures of these babies makes me feel less lonely for the flock.

My "grandma" brag

Got a message from some friends in SW Ohio that one of the BFL ewes they bought from us in 2015 had her first lambs.   What a beautiful pair!   (the silver ram lamb will be for sale - get in line!)  

Llwygy X1

This is the ram that my flock was based on before it was sold.  He is a Welsh ram, and at the time of his collection, was the top indexing ram in the UK sire reference scheme.

Somerhill Orleans

This is Somerhill Lucerne's daughter, Orleans.  Her sire is Somerhill Xcite, so she is Llwygy X1 on both sides of her pedigree.

One of Larue's twin girls, Orleans is developing into a lovely young lady.  Her sister, Orielle, is quite similar in appearance.  They should be, since Larue and their sire, Xcite, are both sired by Llwygy X1.    Another X1 daughter, Lucerne, has a set of twin daughters, Odelle and Ollie.  

Somerhill Shelby and Simone

These twins are daughters of Xcite and Shivaree.  They make me wish I'd bred Shivaree's twin sister, Sarabande, to a BFL ram, too.  Sara has a kick*** set of ram lambs by the Texel ram.  They weighed close to 15# each when they were born, and are growing like gangbusters due to Sara's milking ability.

Best Friends

Xcel seems to prefer the company of his guardian, June-bug, over that of his 7 month old sons.

Breeding time

The flock, without Wednesday's snow.  These are the elite ewes with Xcite, who is the
ram on the left with slightly darker looking wool.  He is breeding a dozen, and
the new Texel ram has the remainder of the ewes.

They are just now turning 2 months, and getting bigger and bigger!

Did I say we'd had the last baby of the year.  Woops - guess not.   Justimere had this adorable little ewe lamb on Wednesday last week.  I "thought" she might have a tiny udder when we checked 2 weeks ago.  She is an excellent mother, and has plenty of milk.

Lamb updates

Ballad's twins, black ram and white ewe.  They are a week old. 

Not sure which ram this is, as we've got several really nicely
put together ram lambs this year.  He'd be 3 weeks old here.

Last lamb of the season, a nice big ewe lamb from Marisol.
She is gorgeous - very blue, with long, slender upright ears.
 

Look out world!

April 5th babies

Born early in the AM when it was 19 degrees, a set of twins, one
of each sex, to Somerhill Ilaria.  Her twin sister, Ilse, had the first
lambs this year, a set of triplets. 

Somerhill Larue, with her seconds old baby girl.  She just got up
to see what on earth that flappy thing is that just came out of her.
In a couple of minutes, she will push once, and baby sister #2
will drop out.  At this point of the morning, its about 50 degrees
and they will dry and warm in the morning sunshine

Potosi Elsie with her newborn daughter.  Sadly, the twin ram
lamb had died in utero, but the ewe lamb is quite healthy.
