Fun new piece of spinning equipment

 This is my new electric ball winder.  It works really well, and certainly saves wear and tear on hands and arms.  I am really pleased with it.

Fun yarn FS

232 yards of corriedale plyed with BFL.  There 
is about 30 yards of plain black at the beginning, then the 
remainder is the bicolor.  It is actually prettier in person
with the contrast of the bright colors against the black
more pronounced.  The Corriedale gives it loft while 
the BFL gives it that silky softness.

Tour de Fleece on steroids!

This is the result of 2 full months of a dedication to spinning at least a bit every day.  I made it!   Most days, it was 30-45 minutes, with a few days of an hour or a bit more.  I think I will continue this into September and see if I can stay focused.   

Finish Line - 2023 Tour de Fleece

  Here are the results of my 2023 Tour de Fleece. (July1-23) 2451 total yards; that is 1.4 miles. With 6 skeins, 17.5 hours of spinning: 1634 singles, 817 plying. I averaged 140 yards per hour. I did not put in as many hours, nor make as many yards of finished yarn, but I did spin the yardage faster this year. (140 per hour, vs 125 last year.)

Day 15 of the Tour

 Finished up 4 oz of olive BFL from TerraMia in OR.  186 yards.  I am still on track to spin some each day.  

Day Ten - Tour de Fleece 2023

174 yards, 4 oz BFL from TerraMia purebred BFL flock in OR

4 oz, 172 yards BFL from Desert Panda - this is imported BFL, and so
probably not purebred. 

 

Day 5 - Tour de Fleece 2023

 Today is the fifth day of the Tour, and I have finished spinning the 4 oz of teal BFL and started in on the second braid of BFL in black/natural/green/blues.   Because it is a commercial roving, likely sourced from the UK, it is noticeably coarser in texture from the teal skein, which came from a noted US BFL breeder.  The fiber from the UK that is labeled BFL is not necessarily from purebred sheep - most likely it is from crosses called mules, which are the backbone of the UK sheep industry.  Nevertheless, it is a pleasant spin.  

This year, the Tour runs from July 1-23.  My goal is to spin some each day.   I hope to complete (at least) this collection of rovings.

Successful fiber show

The MOFF show went well yesterday.  Beautiful weather, nice crowd (small, but came to buy) and I even saw some old friends from the Newark guild and caught up with them.  This is definitely a show I would like to go back to next year.

 Peach Cobbler:  $10 per ounce.

60% BFLxRomeldale wool, 20% red Satin Angora, 10% Peace Silk, 10% Suri Alpaca.  With the silky feel of the fibers that make it, this roving should spin up into a soft, drapey yarn with an inner glow. It has a bit of angelina for added sparkle.

Storm Clouds  $15 per 2oz ball

50% natural grey CVM, 30% chinchilla Satin Angora, 20% kid mohair.   This roving has the natural loft of the crimpy CVM, and the silken softness of the angora content. 

Mocha Frappe'   $15 per 2oz ball

55% Moorit CVM, 25% chocolate chinchilla Satin Angora, 20% natural brown kid mohair.  This is such a unique, rare color of natural fibers, perfectly blended into a luxuriously soft roving.

New Rovings

I have added some new rovings to my fiber available page.   These are finewools blended with Satin angora, kid mohair, silk, alpaca, or angelina.  They are very soft and luxurious, and all natural colors.   Clockwise, above:  Storm Clouds, Mocha Frappe', and Peach Cobbler. 

Great Lakes Fiber Festival Cancelled

Unfortunately, the fiber festival has been cancelled due to the Covid19 pandemic. 
However, I will have product available here, and will post information over the next few weeks.  You can see some of my fibers and yarns on my pages here, and I will also post featured items as they become available. 
I am dyeing BFL locks in multiple colors, as well as white locks. 
I have several smaller batches of luxury fiber blends that are at the processor now.  The include natural colored BFL, CVM, Satin Angora, Alpaca, Peace Silk, and Kid Mohair.
I also have natural white and custom dyed BFL yarn from our flock, and handspun yarns from Satin Angora and some novelty yarns using textures and beads.
