Caliope had a set of very angry triplets this morning. They were in 3 different spots in the barn, and she was busily running from one to the next as each one called her. MEEEE - baa? MEEEEE- baa? MEEEEE - baa? I gathered them up and put them in our big jug, and she soon got them settled down and they stopped fussing. There are 2 little girls(one pink, one blue) and a nice sized, very blue ram lamb. The girls are Belle Valley and Bonnievale. Ahhhhh, peace settles over the farm once again. And I once again have the use of my Explorer, with its new brakes, hub bearing, water pump, and belt tensioner bearing. When it rains, it pours..........

I'm losing count! How many lambs total,(also ewe to ram count)and how many more ewes to go?
When sheep breeders refer to putting a ewe and lambs in the "jug" what excatly is that? Just a small stall?
Yes, Dustin, a jug is a pen. Not sure where that term comes from.... We have a section of the barn separated off, and it has a center aisle with 4 pens on either side that are made from livestock panels. It all clips together so we can take down the pens when we are not using them, or we can reconfigure them to the size and shape we want if we need to pen up a sheep for some reason. Chuck build wooden hay feeders that clip on and hang on the sides for each jug, and we have some flat sided buckets that we can hang in the pen, too.
As of right now, we have 7 ewes that have given birth, with 11 lambs. There are 5 rams and 6 ewes. We still have 12 more ewes to lamb.
Well, and then the Katahdins start in May, and there are about 50 of them to lamb. :^)

What do you mean by one blue and one pink girl???
One of the ewes we sold last year had quads this year.
Pink and Blue refer to the color of their skin at birth. Blue is prefered, but for the most part, the pink ones turn blue by a year old.
