I think you might be seeing some of this years juveniles out working on their own, allowing the parents time for themselves to build up for the winter. Can you see them clear enough to tell whether their juveniles or adults?
We've a pair of red-tails that go through their courting displays in the spring of the year. They're seldom quite during this courtship displays. I rather enjoy their vocalizations. :- )
